Economic information as a key and cross-sectional discipline

The computer science has influenced the modern science of display, storage, transmission and processing of information our lives, our work and leisure in recent decades more and more sustainable than any other science. As a key discipline, it encompasses a wide range of tasks, such as the structuring of processes, the creation of networks and the conception, development and implementation of hardware and software systems. The economic computer science builds on the findings of computer science and links them with business requirements, especially business management. It is therefore a classical cross-sectional discipline. In terms of content, the Bachelor of Science in Business Information is mainly concerned with information and communication systems, which are used to support business processes and to make decisions in companies and in public administration. While computer science is focused on the development and programming of these systems, business informatics examines, for example, how these systems should be designed in order to meet the requirements of the different users in business day. Business informatics

thus plays an important role as a consultant and mediator between the needs of system users, who generally have little knowledge of computer science and the requirements of specialized programmers and system developers. Course of studies of the Bachelor of Business Studies

A key feature of the business informatics Bachelor's degree at the University of Applied Sciences in Schmalkalden is the provision of a profound methodological competence in core-related subjects, which includes an extensive programming portion and training in common application systems such as SAP. Our students learn how to develop softwaresystems themselves and to adapt them to user requirements (customizing). In addition, we provide business knowledge, which includes an assessment of business processes according to economic aspects and decision-making techniques. This experience at the interface between computer science and business management enables our graduates to make informed decisions in the design, use and maintenance of information systems.

Study content in the Bachelor of Business Studies

The 6-semester Bachelor's program is designed in such a way that the students are taught the fundamentals of computer science, mathematics and statistics and the business management theory in the first two semesters of the Bachelor's degree in Business Informatics. In the 3rd and 4th semesters, selected areas of knowledge in business informatics can be deepened and supplemented by additional compulsory elective subjects, which can be deepened in the fourth semester, depending on the individual interest, through an elective module.

The 5th semester covers a practical phase, which is completed in an external company.During the 15- week internship, our students already gain an insight into professional practice in the Bachelor of Business Studies. Consistent practice orientation is an important plus for university graduates, which is highly valued by employers. In the final 6th semester further subjects of the elective offer have to be chosen and the Bachelor Thesis has to be written as a final thesis.

You can make the individual specialization of your Bachelor's degree in Business Informatics even by selecting three compulsory elective courses from the area of corporate management, application systems, database systems, multimedia and communication systems and information management, with a total of 30 ECTS points (10 ECTS points per area).

Through concentration of content and a conscious interaction of basic academic content, specialized specialization and the integration of practice-relevant questions, one is fit for the career step at the end of the Bachelor's degree. The Master's Program "International Business and Economics" can also be pursued at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of our university.

If you would like to take a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, you should have a general or specialized university entrance qualification and be interested in computer science and economic questions. In addition, it is an advantage if you are able to design and organize practical problem solving in an interdisciplinary work environment. In addition, you do not need any special previous knowledge or experience.
